Part 5a - Mas LLunes 2013 Rhodes from DO Empordà, Catalunya: A Return Home

Vi Català. More than a review of the Mas LLunes 2013 Rhodes red wine. I want to begin today's wine review with a much overdue re-cap of my visit to the Mas LLunes winery in 2016. There are more winery visits and reviews pending, which is why I have titled this post, " Part 5a ". Wine review is further below. * You can jump back to the original Outline if needed. Note: Empordà is a Spanish Denominación de Origen (DO) for wines produced in the northeastern corner of Catalunya, in the province of Girona. Up until 2006, it was defined as DO Empordà-Costa Brava to associate the large tourist beach area within the region to the east. On the Road to Mas LLunes Winery in  DO Empordà The drive to the Mas LLunes winery was full of narrow, shoulder-less, twisty back roads. Through some very beautiful country. Once the Pyrenees mountain range became visible, it served as the backdrop for our drive through wine country. Manel shared a lot of detail about the area and...

Inspired by Yakima Valley’s Wine Culture

Soul of the Vine In celebration of Washington Wine Month, Yakima Valley growers have produced a four and a half minute video highlighting the significant touch points that make the Yakima Valley AVA the perfect “painters pallette” for Washington winemakers. A truly inspiring video. Well done. Soul of the Vine from Wine Yakima Valley on Vimeo . The Washington wine industry itself has grown up with the Yakima wine region. The oldest producing vines in the state are here, planted by wine pioneer Dr. Walter Clore. These beginnings have served the entire state, making the video a perfect complement to any wines or wine programs being featured during Washington Wine Month, March 2014. Wine Yakima Valley is a member organization of wineries and wine grape growers whose mission is to strengthen awareness of, and attract wine enthusiasts to, Yakima Valley’s Wine Country. Located in south-central Washington, the Yakima Valley is a scenic and leisurely 150-mile drive from Seattle, ...

2 Joseph Drouhin LaForêt Bourgogne Wines @DreyfusWines

Dreaming of summer. Bitter cold weather has descended on the valley. It's supposed to be even colder over the next few days. Joy. At least I have a good pair of warm boots for braving the outdoors. I even have a pair of warm wool boots for indoor wear too - they are definitely needed.   "...a wine for when you want to dream of warmer days..."

Blog Shout-out! J'aime ton Wine

Slightly Off Topic Today. This morning I was checking on my new twitter followers on @wild4wawine and became curious about a new follower from Paris, France: Lolita Sene @jaimetonwine of the wine blog www.jaimetonwine.com . Admittedly, my two quarters of college French serve me little good today. Hey, it was my last year of school, I audited French 102 and it was also a lovely play in the sun Spring. Priorities. Today I regret not taking French classes more seriously. Just to know what Ms. Lolita Sene is saying in the following video. In this video from J'aime ton Wine ( I Love your Wine ) she reviews/tastes wine with music. And she does it correctly. I love her emotion and exuberance - it does not matter to me what she is saying - I just love the way she is saying it. And there's the music too, tying it all together. Bravo! Her video caught my attention because earlier this year I created a new blog, www.music4wine.com with the intent of pairing my favorite mu...

And charms aplenty you are conferred; you are a tease Hainle Vineyards Gewurztraminer Ice Wine .

Day Two: Big John Bates and Brandy Bones Bates Interview

Vancouver International Wine Festival. After my walk around Downtown Vancouver and lunch in my hotel room, I prepared for my 5:00 pm interview with John and Brandy Bates of the band, Big John Bates . There was time in my schedule for an afternoon or evening visit; I contacted Brandy Bates the day before our interview. She and John agreed to meet at one of their favorite local pubs, the Wicklow Pub . The Wicklow Pub is a comfortable bar in False Creek. They had good beer on tap, great service and a decent menu. It was a comfortable place to hangout and visit over the next two hours. Big John Bates. Big John Bates – John founded the band Big John Bates and the Voodoo Dollz in 2000. Music and Wine Pairing: Gilbert Cellars 2009 Allobroges Wahluke Slope with Rodriguez - Inner City Blues

Today I am pairing the music of Rodriguez with the wine of Gilbert Cellars . Pairing Music with Wine is obviously a personal opinion, biased just like recommending a favorite wine. Either you get it or you don't. This week I've been telling friends and posting on twitter and facebook about a musician I just discovered. My buzz of the week. Actually, a lot of people this year have been "discovering" the music of Sixto Rodriguez, aka "Sugar Man." On Sunday, 60 Minutes feature story was on Rodriguez, and a 2012 Sundance Film Festival awarded movie about his life "Searching for Sugar Man."  His music is 40 years old. FYI: Rodriguez, aka Sugar Man, is on tour. He's playing in Seattle tonight and Portland, Oregon tomorrow. Sadly, I can't make it to either performance. I have a  link to his Tour Dates , maybe you can go. He's  touring the U.S. and then Europe . Gilbert Cellars 2009 Allobroges red wine is also a recent discovery...

Harvest at Gordon Estate

Syrah Harvest 4 October 2012 Photo: Syrah clusters, ripe and ready for picking. Yesterday morning, I visited Gordon Estate to photograph harvest in the vineyard. They were picking Syrah. Winemaker Tim Henley was not sure when they would start harvest, so he told me to wait for his text. At 10:30 am he texted that they had begun. Photo: Mechanical harvester. When I arrived at the vineyard, I saw the mechanical harvester 3/4 of the way down the row. I parked my car and hoofed it to grab some photos of the harvester in action. The Syrah clusters looked good to me. Photo: Vineyard manager Ramon riding the harvester. The tractor pulling the harvester was not moving too fast, so I was able to reach the harvester, grab some shots and then walk back to where I started. Looking at the clouds of dust, I noticed that the soil in the vineyard is fine and powdery. After walking down the rows, my boots looked like they were covered in talcum powder. Photo: End of the ...
