A Week Of Wine - Catching Up

Summary of this week of wine -   I'm short on time to adequately write about everything going on this week. A quick post outlining my week of wine seems to be the optimal option today. Where to start? How about reverse order? Saturday August 23, 2014 - Tossed my Frampton CD. Later dude. Friday August 22, 2014 - Doors Closing Doors closing today! Sadly, today marks the closing of the Wild Walla Walla Wine Woman Wine Shoppe . Owner Catie McIntyre is closing out all wine inventory by end of business today. Everything is on sale, beer, wine and furniture. The good news is that Catie is returning to writing and will have a book published this year! I wish Catie luck and look forward to sharing a glass of wine, or two, soon. All the best Catie! Maryhill Winery - Discover Washington Wine

A list of some of the wonderful Maryhill wines I tasted last week. Kelsey and Darin. Last week I visited Maryhill Winery with Kelsey Ivey of Oregon Winette and Darin Burt, Editor of Washington Magazine . We toured, tasted and had a marvelous visit. We were accompanied by amiable winery owners Craig and Vicki Leuthold. This was my first visit to the winery. Actually, it was the first time I had stopped in the Gorge in 18 years. So, there's a lot I want to share with you about the winery and the beauty that is the Columbia River Gorge. Consider today's post "Part 1" of my Maryhill Winery experience. With the holidays almost here, family and entertaining are on my mind. I wanted to post this list to help you with your holiday wine purchasing decisions. If you cannot find these wines at your local wine shop, contact the winery directly. If you have wine shipped, remember that for best enjoyment, wine needs about a week to recover from  *bot...

Review: Maryhill Winery 2010 Winemaker's Red

A gratifying change of pace. Photo: Maryhill Winery Winemaker's Red, Columbia Valley. Summer 2012 at my home has favored crisp, well chilled, white wine. After doing a favor for a friend, I was not sure what to think when he handed me a bottle of Maryhill 2010 Winemaker's Red. I said “thank you” of course and stashed the bottle in the kitchen for a week. The other type of wine I've favored this summer is New Zealand Pinot Noir , which is unlike Washington red wine. My palate has not been Washington wine focused this season. Very unusual for me. I'm happy to share with you that the Maryhill 2010 Winemaker's Red put an ample smile on my face. It was very good and an unexpected treat. Washington State wineries can truly deliver when it comes to quality, price and most importantly, enjoyability. This bottle did not linger. I also like that on the label, they chose to add, "Washington State Red Wine" I believe it is important to have Washington  on t...
