Pandemic Silver Lining | An Audio Journey

The music had a three dimensional quality I was never cognizant of before. I was gobsmacked. Music for sanity When I was five years old, I would sit in the basement of our house on Cascade street and play records by myself. “ Me and My Shadow ” on 45 RPM, was one of my favorite Peter Pan songs. I also had Aesop's Fables, narrated by a woman with an amazing voice. The stories thrilled and fascinated. I have had no success finding a copy. Another favorite was, “ Just So Stories ” I have a copy on vinyl gifted by my son. Another favorite was, “ The Bible ” I have a digital copy. Wow. Amazing voice acting and a little scary.  When I was a teenager, I migrated to David Bowie, Cheap Trick, Steve Miller Band, Ohio Players, and Led Zeppelin. My audio equipment as a kid and as a teen, and then as a college student, was never sophisticated. In college I moved to portable cassette players and tapes, with cheap headphones. Might explain some of my current hearing problems. As an adult, married...

Destination Woodinville Willows Lodge and Wine Director Interview - Part Three @WineWoodinville

Willows Lodge, respite in wine country. Part Three: Destination Woodinville Wine Country. Wine country in Woodinville, Washington. What does that mean to you? For me it represented many Woodinville labels disconnected from faces and place. No longer. If you missed the first posts in this series, I'm re-counting my first weekend spent in Woodinville Wine Country. *Read the Introduction, Woodinville a First Weekend, "No Longer Strangers" if you missed it. Willows Lodge and Spa Where do you stay when visiting Woodinville Wine Country? I stayed at the Willows Lodge and Spa . This is a deluxe spa destination, a place to relax alone or with companions. The grounds were soothing, the service was impeccable. And I'm picky. Wineries are located just around the corner. I spent two comfortable nights at the Willows Lodge while learning about Woodinville wine country. Friday dinner and Sunday brunch were at the on premise Barking Frog restaurant. Making goo...

Blog Shout-out! J'aime ton Wine

Slightly Off Topic Today. This morning I was checking on my new twitter followers on @wild4wawine and became curious about a new follower from Paris, France: Lolita Sene @jaimetonwine of the wine blog www.jaimetonwine.com . Admittedly, my two quarters of college French serve me little good today. Hey, it was my last year of school, I audited French 102 and it was also a lovely play in the sun Spring. Priorities. Today I regret not taking French classes more seriously. Just to know what Ms. Lolita Sene is saying in the following video. In this video from J'aime ton Wine ( I Love your Wine ) she reviews/tastes wine with music. And she does it correctly. I love her emotion and exuberance - it does not matter to me what she is saying - I just love the way she is saying it. And there's the music too, tying it all together. Bravo! Her video caught my attention because earlier this year I created a new blog, www.music4wine.com with the intent of pairing my favorite mu...

Review: Albardiales Tempranillo 2011 Castilla-La Mancha, Spain

My frequent readers know that I am partial to Spanish wines , it should be no surprise that I've been looking forward to opening this bottle of Albardiales 2011 Tempranillo from Castilla-La Mancha. This wine was provided by the Castilla-La Mancha US Tour 2013 . Thank you. It was a lovely Spanish wine and it was my first experience with a wine from Castilla-La Mancha. To settle into the proper mood I connected my iPad to the stereo and listened to a  Spanish Flamenco playlist on Songza . With Flamenco music playing in the background I proceeded to open the bottle.

Day Two: Big John Bates and Brandy Bones Bates Interview

Vancouver International Wine Festival. After my walk around Downtown Vancouver and lunch in my hotel room, I prepared for my 5:00 pm interview with John and Brandy Bates of the band, Big John Bates . There was time in my schedule for an afternoon or evening visit; I contacted Brandy Bates the day before our interview. She and John agreed to meet at one of their favorite local pubs, the Wicklow Pub . The Wicklow Pub is a comfortable bar in False Creek. They had good beer on tap, great service and a decent menu. It was a comfortable place to hangout and visit over the next two hours. Big John Bates. Big John Bates – John founded the band Big John Bates and the Voodoo Dollz in 2000.
