5 Years Blogging about Wine

William Pollard Jr - writes for the Wild 4 Washington Wine blog. This month marks the 5th anniversary of my wine blog. In 2006, after much reflection, I decided to start blogging about wine . My decision was predicated on the experiences I had gleaned from my first year of working at Barnard Griffin winery . While I no longer work for a winery, I have made many friends within the Washington wine industry. What’s changed in the last five years?  My position on screw caps has changed ; I now like screw caps and find it satisfying to crack open a bottle with a screw cap. It’s so easy to open and gain access to the wine in the bottle. And most importantly, I know the wine will taste as intended. Every time I pull a real cork out of a bottle, I worry about the wine being corked. It may not happen often, but it happens often enough that I worry that cork is going to ruin my bottle of wine. It happened last night, the bottle was corked. My nose is just too demanding. Last year ...

Packing for Virginia

The 2011 Wine Blogger Conference (WBC11) starts this week. A lot of wine information is going to be tweeted and blogged from Charlottesville, Virginia. I’m looking forward to contributing to that wealth of wine information. It’s exhilarating to attend an event like the Wine Blogger Conference. This year the conference sold out at 325 seats. What an amazing opportunity to learn and share with other wine bloggers from around the world. WBC10 Meet the Sponsors - Foodista and Catavino. Last year I attended the third annual Wine Blogger’s Conference (WBC10) in Walla Walla, Washington. It was an inspiring and educational event which motivated me to write more. Since then, I’ve made many new friends in the wine industry. WBC11 will be an unmatched occasion to learn about and discuss wine as it relates to the world of new media; blogging, twitter, social media, and video. I am looking forward to expanding my knowledge of wine and building new relationships. Stay posted, I’ll be sharing ...

Blogging Tech The Kindle

Okay, I am still stoked from WBC10. Still finding people I have not contacted and an ever growing todo list. The tech at WBC10 included a lot of iPhones, laptops, netbooks and the soon to be ubiquitous iPad. What I did not see were Amazon Kindles. Which got me wondering, why not? Being curious, I thought I would see if it was possible. For those who don't know, the Kindle is an ereader device sold by amazon.com and now sold at Target stores. The entry level Kindle has a 6inch e-ink display and is now priced at a reasonable $189. Besides having a crisp monochrome display, long multi-day battery life, the Kindle has NO monthly fee for the 3G wireless used to download books and access the web. I am using the Kindle now to write this post! With the newest 2.5 update I can access Twitter too. No monthly fee, usable keyboard and so much more. I will keep you posted on Kindle blogging. Cheers!
