January Virtual Tasting - 2010 StoneCap Cabernet Sauvignon

Tonight is the January Virtual Wine Tasting.
Ready for Virtual Tasting.

My tasting notes and feedback from the virtual tasting.
I encourage you to join us when you can.

The January Virtual Tasting wine was the Stonecap 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley. This wine retails for around $10 and is widely available in Washington. The tasting took place on Wednesday January 30th from 7-8 pm PST.

Tasting Notes:
  • In general, my fellow tweeters and virtual tasters were no big fans of the label, except that it was easy to spot on the shelf (there's value in that).
  • Someone tweeted that the 2011 label is better.
  • At first, some herbal notes on the nose, menthol in background, pencil shavings, cherry, bit earthy/mushroom.
  • After 30 minutes, some lovely big, Bing cherry on the finish. Not too dry, not too  bright, with a medium finish. Bit of espresso vapor appeared too, and some green tea and mushroom in that palate.
  • After 45 minutes, a hole opened mid-palate.
  • After 2 hours mostly coffee on the nose, flavors muted, acid more obvious.
  • The consensus was: This wine is correctly priced. Reasonable value. Best as a food wine, drink with a good wood-fired pizza or pasta with red sauce and you will enjoy this wine.
I enjoy these virtual tastings. What you need to do to participate on a virtual tasting:

1. Buy the curent month’s wine from a local retailer or direct from the winery.
2. Have a twitter account.
3. Tweet your comments about the wine on Twitter, as each participant opens their bottle and shares comments about the wine between 7 and 8pm PST. For those on Twitter, follow @wawinereport.

Washington Wine Report (Sean Sullivan) hosts the monthly virtual tastings. I began attending these virtual tastings last year. Truly a lot of fun and another way to connect with like minded souls. Good sensory and palate exercise too. For my tweets, follow @wild4wawine.
