Review: Pepi Pinot Grigio 2012 and Pepi Sauvignon Blanc 2012 California

 It's Pepi Time!

Pepi wines are sourced from grapes grown in cool-climate vineyard regions of California.

Clouds and rain, that's the week we've had in Eastern Washington. Where's our sunshine? Feeling a little low, I needed something to liven up the evening. Thankfully I had two bottles of Pepi wine sent to me for review. Their label reminds me of surfboards standing on end; which makes me think of sun, sand, vacation and good times. I enjoyed these two California wines.

Tasting Notes: Pepi 2012 Pinot Grigio
Fruity apple/pear and a bright finish greeted me on the first sip. That's a nice hello. Going back to the glass I smelled apricots, lychee and nuts. Smooth bodied, fruity and almost sweet with a tightness on the tongue. This wine made me think of sun and sand. Just what I needed on a cloudy, wet afternoon.

Pairing suggestions: Seafood pasta in white sauce, shrimp Gumbo, grilled prawns with chili sauce, steamed crab and fried chicken with honey. I'm hungry.

Tasting Notes: Pepi Sauvignon Blanc 2012
Yellow green color. Mineral quality on the nose with grapefruit skin, a touch floral and nutty. The Pepi Sauvignon Blanc was fruity tart with grapefruit, medium bodied, it had a nutty, fruity, full grapefruit finish. Ah, go away clouds. Refreshing.

Pairing suggestions: Prawns and fried rice, herb roasted chicken, breaded pork chops, corn on the cob and Caesar salad. I enjoyed this wine with dinner.

Three Albariños and Several Food Pairings | Taste Rías Baixas

As promised, more reviews of  Albariño wines from Rías Baixas.  My previous post ( My Favorite White Wines this Summer are from DO Rias Baixas ), I emphasized more traditional food pairings, grilled shrimp, Ceviche, and watermelon. This time, I wanted to try some different pairings to see how well Albariño wines would match. I love seafood, but I was curious about the flexibility of this variety. My test pairings began with a series of mini quiche I made at home, spinach, hamburger, tomato, dill and steak. Following are my tastings notes on the wines and the food pairing results.
